Setting up the bench and angle

Position an adjustable bench under the Smith machine bar. Set the bench at 30 to 45 degrees. Adjust the bench position so the bar travels through the upper chest at the bottom of the rep. Test the setup with light load before working sets. The bar position can be sensitive to small bench adjustments at the incline angle.

Body position

Sit on the bench with the back against the back pad. Slide down so the bar is over the upper chest at the starting position. Plant the feet firmly on the floor.
